Working in Schools
Passion for Learning is a professional service recruiting, training, resourcing and
supporting volunteers who work in schools with children who would benefit from some special time to support their learning and overall experience of school.
All of our volunteers have a dedicated Volunteer Support Manager to support them in their role and will undergo a full day’s training before they are introduced to schools.
Their training includes a module on safeguarding that covers Prevent, disclosures, signs and symptoms of abuse and our own very comprehensive Child Protection Policy.
Once in school the volunteers are provided with high quality resources tailored to the individual needs and requirements of the children they support.
How Does It Work?
Our approach is to provide children with two half hour sessions each week based around their own interests and motivations so no two sessions look quite the same. Volunteers go into school twice a week and always work with the same children to enable them to get to know that child’s needs and form a strong and consistent relationship.
The children absolutely love the time they spend with their volunteer and the results are always positive and can sometimes be life changing
We work closely with schools and volunteers to understand each child’s learning needs and develop sessions for them that are both fun and inspiring.
We have hundreds of books, games, craft materials, jigsaws, science sets and much more which the volunteers have full access to at any time.
In addition to this, if the child or volunteer has something very specific that they would like to use in their sessions, we can support them with this. The Volunteer Sessions will be extremely diverse in order to support the children with any potential barriers that may impact on their learning, such as, low self-esteem, autism, ADHD.
We are delighted to offer ongoing specialist training days, some of which have included conferences on autism, ADHD and communication skills, all given by highly qualified staff or outside professional organisations. Where possible, we invite our partner schools to these events free of charge.
